History
Bnei
Akiva is today one of the largest International youth movements represented
in over 30 countries, with over 50,000 members. It began as a tiny organization
in Jerusalem , Israel in 1929. Simultaneously, youth groups with the
Torah Va’Avodah ideology were being started in Europe , affiliated with
the Poalei HaMizrachi Movement. Within a few years, Bnei Akiva had set
up structures in many Diaspora countries, embedding those communities
with the ideology of Torah Va’Avodah. Members of the Torah Va’Avodah
youth movements in the Diaspora made aliyah to join with their brothers
in Bnei Akiva of Israel as chalutzim, building kibbutzim and actualizing
the ideals of Torah Va’Avodah.
